Mists/Rain/Sunshine/Mists…
Day 7 Hiking. Wednesday June 8.

Cakes in the restaurant of The Coachman Hotel. Looked rather yummy, but pancakes and Very salty bacon had been just eaten.

Funny, maybe not so funny, sheets of information in hotel lobby.
Before and after breakfast watched a concert of Andre Rieu. Great way to start off a person’s day.

The towpath on the right was followed all day. Kind of reminds me of walking around Stevens Point.

The locks are so interesting to me.

This tunnel was walked through and straight ahead the Union Canal went straight into the Falkirk Wheel. As I approached and went down below a set of boats was about to be transferred from the high level down to the lower Forth and Clyde.

The Union Canal comes in from the left and stops at the revolving lift.

The Falkirk Wheel replaced 11 locks. The height is that of 8 Double Decker busses stacked.

“In appreciation for creating this garden for all to enjoy, Andrew Muirhead, 1928-2014. From the neighbors” on a little plaque in front of the plantings.

Given directions from another walker of where to get down from the canal path and find food, indoors and out of rain. The Retro Cafe. Had the lentil soup and the best soft white bread. Ate one triangle and put both pats of Irish butter on it. Tasted almost sinful.

Got the full set of waterproofs out. Marmot! I was dry inside the suit and feet were dry inside the Altra boots ❤️

Many Scottish men are very tall. Then again, many are short and stumpy.

Women’s team from Glasgow University out for a training session. They have a competition near London in 2 weeks. I asked if Glasgow was very far away. About 11 miles. Asked if it was north or south of the canal. The coach said it was West, but he pointed East. I pointed West as I knew where I was going. My map is not large enough to include the larger picture of surrounding cities.

These German men have been hiking in Scotland for over 4 weeks. They did the West Highland Way (1 week), Isle of Skye (1 week), Outer Hebrides (1 week), and now John Muir Way. Camping the entire time. Tough dudes. The one in the rain kilt (right) hiked the Appalachian trail 5 years ago in 5 months.

Fisherman under a large green umbrella.

Watching “The Second Best Exotic Magnolia Hotel”.
“Handle a book as a bee does a flower, extract its sweetness but do not damage it.” John Muir
Falkirk to Kilsyth, Coachman Hotel - 2nd night of WiFi sitting the floor landing outside my Seriously Fire Proof room. 😊
12.2 Miles. 29334 Steps. 6 Hours

Taxi ride with John back to Falkirk. Chatting and chatting. Dropped off at funny little train station. Put on Rain clothes. Get the feet in motion.

The Wheel rotates bringing one up and one down. Perfectly balanced. The one on the right is going down.

Walking in misty Scottish rain makes me happy. The steady rain - not so
