Walking Into Edinburgh
Day 17 Hiking. Sunday, June 19.

Please bring your dogs to our finest, and oldest, restaurants. Always welcoming the fur children. And at the Hawes Inn they even have their own snacks and bowls.

Smashed avocado/poached egg/beetroot hummus with pine nuts for breakfast. I am NOT a fan of beets, but gave this a try. Okay, but wouldn’t want it again - or any BEETS!!!

Talked with a woman at this entrance to the Dalmeny House. She has lived in the area all her life. Was collecting a friend to take for a COVID test as she was having surgery tomorrow. The woman I was chatting with had been in Rennes, France last week, (must be wonderful to live where this sort of travel and adventure is easily available). Next week she is going to hike the West Highland Way. She was a bit worried about her ability. I told her how my FAVORITE part of the WHW was Rannoch Moor. 10 miles walking across landscape Up High Above the rest of the world. I miss that sort of environment, but know the knees wouldn’t have survived that kind of stress.

Poor bunny.

Flight path to Edinburgh airport went right over dual carriageway, and the walking/cycling path by it. Duck your heads!

Saw a police man out patrolling/walking the path into Edinburg. Now that would be a beat I would have loved to have done.

Mile marker.

There were 2 of these elegant dogs Prancing along with their humans.

Friendly Keeshond. The dogs “were once companions and watch dogs on the barges and boats that traveled the canals.”

Walked into Edinburgh from the northwest, through City Center, then south 1.5 miles to the suburbs to Kingsway B&B. Making a curve around Arthur’s Seat.

Oor Wullie.

Met these woman and we had a lovely chat. They are part of a choir performing at the National Cathedral this afternoon (showing off their identifying T-shirts before changing into their professional attire). Had a lively chat about various hiking options. One lady loved America. Had spent time in Kennebunkport (I asked if she had seen any political people (Kennedy). No. Next she wants to go to Cape Cod.

When checking out my sandwich at Marks and Spencer’s the machine wouldn’t accept my coins. Finally a store employee came and explained I needed to place my scanned item on the left side of the machine. Previously I had placed it on the right side. The man and I laughed when I said in the US the scanned items are placed on the right side of the machine. Another example of the British doing things the ‘wrong’ way, such as driving on the wrong side of the road.

Lunch under/next to monument to Sir Walter Scott.

Stairwell in my B&B looking down from my level.

Local Pub.

Asian man has lived at the corner of this block for 25 years. His garden was at a low point now and he kept apologizing for me having missed his flowers. Apparently he grows different things four seasons of the year. He was so happy to have an American show an interest.

Fresh Broccoli! Yum. Sushi-okay, but not so yum 👎

10 PM. View out my window. I shall put on eye mask and end this day.
Hawes Inn, Queensferry to Kingsway B&B, Edinburgh.
12.45 Miles. 29,938 Steps. 5.5 Hours.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! Gary 😊.
Line dried towels might save energy, but they are ROUGH!

She knew about Wisconsin - CHEESE - as she had met a man in Florida (of course) and he told her all about it.

Feeling pretty good. Knees didn’t hurt today (cross fingers) and the body is feeling stronger. Even the pack doesn’t feel so heavy even if holding the same stuff/weight. The hike must be winding down when it all gets a shade easier.
